ok im looking for any advice on a Av amp and speakers to go with my Sharp 740h Dvd player, about £600 in total to spend. would also like to connect my video, sky digibox and cd player to it.
The room is about 15ft x 13ft.
TV being used is a Panasonic dolby pro logic with 4 separate speakers that came with it.

Amp,s that ive been considering are
Yamaha 620 with or without receiver.
marantz 4200
Denon 1802

speakers, a big ?

or maybe a complete system like the yamaha HTiB -40 (rxv420rds & ns-p220 speaker package) would be better?

Any recommendations would be a big help.

THANX Jimmy

You can do better than the HTiB40 if you want to spend the whole £600. If you like the idea of the HTiB, then get the amp from Richer Sounds at £215, and the speakers from http://www.qed-uk.com for £139.

Alternatively, I would look at "next generation" products like the Denon 1602 (rather than the 1802 - would take too much of the budget), or the Marantz you mention. The 1602 can be got from http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk for £270. This would leave you £300 odd for speakers. You will get better sound per pound from "normal" sized speakers - to get a really good sound from sub/satellite systems you need to spend more, really.
I am very pleased with my Mission M71 fronts, M7C1 centre and M7DS surrounds, but, depending on space available, you ought to consider the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 (£140 - qed) as fronts. These should do the business, and (from what Clayts has said) also take over the sub`s role too.
I got the M71s rather than something larger in the range as I wanted to tuck the speakers away - I`m sure I`m not getting the best from the speakers, but room layout and small children dictates - and once I get a sub going....

All depends on the amount of space you want to devote to speakers etc - if you go down the sub/sat route, then you could try the NSP220 that is part of the HTiB package, but I would go for a more modern amp, with Prologic 2 - I think it will last you longer.

Definitely with you on the Wharfey 8.3s - if you haven`t got the dosh for a sub, they handle bass well : total bargain at £140 as well, seing as they retail at £200 - you may have to wait up to 14 days for them from QED.

I agree with Richard - go for the Denon 1602 if money is tight - at least you`ll get ProLogic2 - the first Yammy amp (RXV1200RDS) to have this won`t be out for a while and will be about £800 sadly - probably take a while to filter down to their budget range.
