Philips 710

I have a Philips 710, when I bought it the guy made it region free. I`ve been having problems playing some discs on it recently, these discs are all R2 - they include Billy Connolly Live and Emminem. It`s not just these discs, there are about half a dozen others. All the machine does is try and read the disc and then after a minute spit it out again. I`ve tried the discs on another player and they are working fine - any body out there help me with this - it`s driving my head to the wall!

Sounds like a hardware prob. The player makes 5 attempts to read the disc then ejects if unsuccessful. Will your 710 play any discs? If so, which ones?

The player will play loads of other discs, everything from Gladiator to Snow White! You reckon I need to get an engineer to look at it?

Ian

Have you tried cleaning the discs ?. Try this and a cd lens cleaning disc before you pay out for an engineer. A friend of mine had a similar problem with a Laserdisc player refusing to play CD`s and all he did to rectify it was to play a cd lens cleaning disc.

If cleaning doesn`t work, maybe the focus range needs adjusting-NOT a DIY job. Although DVDs are made to a tight tolerance, there will be small differences in thickness. I`ve known it to happen with audio CDs.
A competent engineer should be able to do the job easily.

Ian, I too have this player & the same problems occur randomly on all region discs. The only way I have found to overcome this is when the player starts making as though its about to spit the disc out, turn off the player then turn on, open drawer & press play all in quick succession, long winded but it works for me. The only conselation is that someone else have same problem with same machine so it must be time to buy a new one as it not just yours !!
