The sony is a nice sounding unit, but I`ve only heard it instore, so hard to say about subwoofer noise.

One *VERY* important point though, and a stupid one for Sony!

You *must* have an OPTICAL digital out, it will *not* work with a Coaxial or an onboard 5.1 decoder!

Crazy, innit? Bring out a system that does what everyone wants, not too heftily priced, with very nicely sized speakers and sub, then only give it optical in when the majority of sub £200 players only have a co-ax out?

I have the 215 and it does have inputs for a 5.1 decoded signal along with a source select switch, but I do not have suitable DVD to test.

No problem with the subwoofer, my room is about the same size and it`s very loud, you can also adjust the bass accordingly.

You can buy a converter for the co-ax / optical but this costs about £35.

Overrall I can highly recommend this unit.

HI,

My wife bought me the htk215 for Christmas (got it early in November!). She absolutely hates it! That can only mean one thing..... it`s loud.

My living room is 16*14, and the 215 is perfect for it.

No evidence of humming from the sub - just ringing in my ears after watching too many dvds!

The 215 is DTS compatible (main reason I chose it over Sonys earlier model).

Overall, I would rate it excellent.

Hi,

Need some help from some of you HTK 215 Guys.

The missus bought me a samsung DVD M104 player for crimbo. Now I want the good old surround sound package to go with it.

My DVD says that it has DD, DTS etc... It has digital out (coaxil and optical) the manual says it needs to plug into a dolby digital decoder/amp for this to work. The HTK215 says that it has "auto format decoding" - does this mean I dont have to buy a separate decoder? I have a small living room 14ft x 14ft so the sound should be just fine.

HTK 215 from Unbeatable at £266 seems to be the best price around. Just need to know if it will do the full job for me, and that i dont have to buy anything else.

Also, my TV doesnt have audio out (big TV next on shopping list), But I take it I can just plug my sky digibox and VCR through it.

Thanks

Sheepy,

All I needed to get my HTK215 up and running (Straight out of the box) was a digital optical cable running from the amp to the dvd player (JVC XV523).

The HTK215 is a complete package so you won`t need a seperate decoder.

BTW - it is EXCELLENT!!

Basically `AFD` means that will attempt to detect the type of signal available, i.e DOLBY DIGITAL, Pro-Logic etc, it appears you can override the settings and choose whether to listen in surround, 2 channel etc.

You will need to purchase a suitable digital cable. The VCR and SkyDigibox might have phono outs which I use on mine to connect to the 215, but normally I don`t bother and just use the standard scart linked to the speakers.

The HTK-215 is a decoder for the DD and DTS signal.

Enjoy

Adam
