Similar problem to post below, ihave recently bought a Bush Pro 300 for the bargain price of £50 and would like to connect it to my Playstation2 and Hitachi 305E but unfortunatly these do not have the needed 6 phono outputs. Is a decoder the only way to connect these to my speaker system? And if so any recommendations?(The cheaper the better)
I do not want to buy a new DVD as i am happy with the Hitachi(multi-region) Any and all help will be apreciated
Where did you get the Bush pro 300 for £50?
Thanks.
Yes, a decoder is the only way. Most decoders come within an amp, so little point in that. Would be cheaper to buy another dvd player, like the Cyberhome 528 (which apparently decodes DTS as well as DD) - Richer doing them for £99. Can`t imagine you`ll get a dedicated stand alone decoder for less than that....
Alternatively, the Yamaha 396 amp (decodes DD only, no DTS) is on sale at Richer for £120, but I`m not sure if it has pre-outs (i.e. unamplified outputs) to run in to the Bush (as the Bush amplifies, you don`t want to feed it an amplified signal!!). This would give you the option of upgrading speakers at a later date, should you wish to.

It was from Safeway - no box hence the lower price
Right so a decoder is the only way.I really dont want to buy a new DVD so if anybody can advise on any decoders below £200 i will be happy as for RichardH - i will check out that Yamaha 396 amp
What I might do is sell my dvd player and buy one with a decoder.
I`m torn between a panasonic and sony at the moment.
Overall it should still work out cheaper than buying a decoder.
Also if you buy a decoder it means you have an extra box to put somewhere.
I have looked at the yamaha vs10 which people have rated highly, it is very bulky and the Bush looks really nice is comparison.
I always go on looks first before I buy anything, probably the wrong approach I know.
Blimey Norman, i don`t want to sound harsh, but you really are in the wrong frame of mind here! The Bush may look nice with its (vinyl wrap i must add) wood effect speakers, but pull off those grilles and look at those flimsy and lightweight drivers. Pick up the sub and marvel at the hot air inside, and then sit back and turn up the volume, only to be met by coughing and spluttering as the Bush dares to go loud.
In comparison, the Yamaha has had all the money spent under the bonnet, with Yamaha`s 20 odd years of surround sound experience ensuring surround sound is steered around the room to awesome effect. Then theres the active sub, which can shake the house when asked, then there`s the speakers, which feel far more solid and use more efficient drive units.
Put simply(in addition to my other post) A DVD DECODER IS NO MATCH FOR A DEDICATED OFF BOARD UNIT.
I won`t go on any more as it is not my job to make people spend money on more expensive stuff, but i do feel im right here, and i`m only trying to make sure you get the best sound for your pound!
