I`ve just bought and installed a Geforce2mx agp-ria4(tv out). I was wondering does this have macrovision on it? And if so can I disable it? I have tried to record to vhs using the phono leads and am unsucsessful any help appreciated. Can you record onto vhs?

I would say this is a TV-out not a TV in so no is the answer.
You need a capture card to get stuff in to the PC, but this would be limited to video - I don`t know of a PC on the planet which could capture the amount of data chcuked out by a DVD.

I think the computer is being used as a DVD player, hence the need for video out?

I assume you are getting a signal showing on the TV? Have you checked whether you are outputting PAL or NTSC? If your Tv is new enough it will work with NTSC but your video player might not. Can you give more info on ehat problem exactly you have, are you getting anything at all recording to the video?
