Have I made a mistake? Cyberhome or Wharfdale?

elfranko (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 13th November 2001, 14:45

Hi there - I recently sold my Wharfdale 750s and bought a Cyberhome ADM512 because of the inbuilt decoder. But I`ve had to `downgrade` the firmware in order to get multiregion and I`ve found a major problem with Toy Story 2 Region1. Now I have just seen that the £20 cheaper M5 also has a built in decoder and does multi region and, from past experience, is realiable. Have I made a mistake????

I have a 512, and Toy Story 2 R1 (part of the 2 disc pack). What`s the problem you are getting? I`ll test mine too.

Where did you get the 512? I bought it (in June) for £120 from Richer Sounds - certainly cheaper than the price I saw the M5 for.

Hi Richard - I`m getting a little yellow cymbol in the top left corner (Looks round with brackets on either side??) when the Disney Video/DVD logo appears and the sound distorts. Then I get serious picture distortion during the film from the start (The Buzz computer game bit), pixalisation and sound distortion.

Played fine on my Wharfie 750s. Got the CH for £120, but apparently the M5 is now £99. :(

ps got the player from WHSmith offline store and updated the firmware via CD-R with software from Cyberhome.

The M5 is only £99 in Newport, Gwent. Everywhere else it`s £149 still.

Maybe part of the firmware you loaded was corrupt? My mate had this same problem on a different disk, Cant remember what it was but he blasted his machine with a fresh disk and firmware and the problem was cured.
