Page 1 of Picture Set-Up For LCD?
Hardware Forum
Hello chaps,
Just bought my new LCD (Samsung LE32R71), and it`s lovely. However, I always read comments by folk who say "the picture wasn`t great until i set it up properly".
Knowing that the defaults aren`t always great, what should I be doing to get the picture top notch?
Different settings for the STB and DVD inputs, regards to contrast, brightness etc? Color temp?
Or is it a case of playing around for a few hours till i find out whats best?
Any pointers or tips welcome...

Turn the sharpness down.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
The local pub has just redone the lounge and installed 2 x Sony 37 LCD`s.
The picture on them was really, really bad until the owner asked me to have a fiddle with the remotes.
They were set on a `dynamic` setting, which I can only assume is designed to make them look good in a brightly lit scenario, such as a shop or airport or something.
Everything was way too bright and in your face.
Turning everything down made a helluva difference.
Turning the sharpness down,as 42%-er suggests, also made the picture better, but you couldn`t go too far or the picture gave the impression of being out of focus/fuzzy.
We also noted that, for football, turning off the picture processing made things better.
If they were turned up to max, there was terrible `ghosting` of the players, like the TV simply couldn`t keep up with their motion and was trying to `fill in the gaps`.
RE: Picture Set-Up For LCD?
Cheers folks - the sharpness and dynamic processing were ramped up, so have turned them right down. And the contrast was at full whack, so have sorted that as well.
Is it worth getting a DVD test disc for proper calibration? Anywhere you can pick them up cheap? Ebay?

So I`m finding out!

Have you got star wars, monsters inc or anything with the THX logo on it? If so it has the THX Optimiser on it. This is a basic picture set up thing.

We got TV Drive yesterday and connected it up via HDMI. My missus preferred the sharp dynamic picture with vibrant colours. I prefer the colours to be softer and the picture to be warmer. It really is a matter of preference. Every now and again I will tweak the settings as I am watching a reference film such as Star Wars or something like that.
One thing I do agree on is having the sharpness turned down. Mine is on 10.

Hasnt your TV got the capacity for different user presets? Mine can store 3, so I have one for gaming, DVDs and sky.
