Dick Moore (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 3rd November 2001, 17:21

I have about £600 to spend on a upgrade to a complete home cinema package. I have seen the following systems and would welcome any advice or sugguestions before purchase:

Currys £599.00

Panasonic SC-HE7

Richer Sounds £519.00

DVD Panasonic DVDRV31
Tuner/Amp Kenwood KRFV5050
Speakers Teac LS5.1U
+ Cables
was going to purchase Eltax silverado speakers but only had them in silver

Or does anyone have any alternate suggestions

Many thanks

Dick,

Have a looksie at my section on Clayts excellent Sampo based site www.area450.com-point your mouse towards the home cinema section(which i edit) and see what you can knock together from there. All you need to do is then add your dvd player. And if you haven`t got one-a Wharfedale m5 will be just the ticket!
Let me know if you get stuck and you`re still undecided and i`ll point you in the right direction.

All the best

Westy

Also remember that the prices Westy mentions are mainly recommended retail, and you`ll get stuff cheaper if you shop around. Here are some good URLs for home cinema kit:
http://www.qed-uk.com (very good speaker prices)
http://hifibitz.co.uk (not always the cheapest, but good range)
http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk (will price match, and often throw in free extra guarantees, plus free delivery)
http://www.hifistore.co.uk (there or there abouts on the prices - service supposed to be excellent)

I used to assume that Richer were the cheapest, but the discrepancies between in store and web prices, plus the delivery charges have lead me to hunt around elsewhere.

Happy hunting!
