Region 1 NTSC and PAL

I have a Samsung DVDM105 and I recently got the Simpsons Box Set region 1. The region hack worked fine but when i watch the dvd there is a slight flickering in the upper left portion of the screen. I checked that quasi-pal was on and when I turned it off the slight flickering went away buy there were other artefacts instead. I know the TV can handle 60Hz. Could this be the symptom of a poor Scart lead? Or anything else?

It could be a symptom of Macrovision, funnily enough - your TV may be extra sensitive to Macrovision when in 60Hz mode.

I`ve noticed similar artifacts when playing Macro-encoded R1 DVDs and pre-recorded NTSC VHS tapes through my parents` Panasonic TV. NTSC stuff that I know *doesn`t* have Macrovision plays fine.

So, which model of TV do you have? It`s probably something that`s tweakable via the service menu.

Thanks Mike. The TV is a Samsung CII-5052AT about 6 years old. It`s a fairly basic 21" model. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated as I`ve just ordered a bundle of region 1 dvd`s and having them all flicker could drive me insane :-)

You get used to it after a while but it makes the picture seem like its a VHS tape.

Can`t suggest anything specific I`m afraid as I`m unfamiliar with Samsung TVs.

Are you using a RGB connection between the player and TV set, or is it composite? Have you tried both?
