WHAT IS THE BEST £100 DVD PLAYER????

CuSsMaN (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 24th October 2001, 22:10

I am in the market for a bargain £100 DVD player. I know about the ones at richersounds, but ideally I want a player that has a high quality brand name like Samsung, Aiwa.

Are the lesser known ones like the cyberhome, accoustic or limit any good, does anyone have any recommendations.

Cheers ;)

You will find that if you do get a "brand name" one, it will likely be an old model, and possibly difficult to make multiregion without chipping.

The Dansai that Tesco Extras are doing seems to have got the thumbs up (see bargain bucket forum for thread) - no I haven`t heard of them either. The Cyberhome 528 (WHSmiths are doing it for £99, too) should be OK, but it apparently has a few glitches playing MP3, if that worries you.

If you are worried about longevity etc with the non branded players, then I suggest you get one from Richer, and buy the 3 year cover for £19.99. If you don`t use it, you get your money back. They also promise to buy your kit back for (up to?!) half the original price, so you have a reasonable way of upgrading to one of the new players that might be around in 3 years - that way 3 years of DVD watching will only cost your around £50.

I suppose £100 for a multiregion DVD player is a BARGAIN.
Which £100 multiregion from Richer do you reckon is the best???

Cheers :)

We got a Limit to replace our faulty Cyberhome and it`s good enough for us. There`s no RGB, but the picture looks good to me. Mind you I haven`t played with enough players to really make a comparison.

I`ve tried VCD on CDR and CD-RW and they worked. It does MP3, but choked on a CD I made using variable bit rate.

We took the Richer Sounds warranty just in case. 20 quid for 3 years is a bargain.

Ive got a limit, had it 4 a short while and love it 2 bits. If you mention the advert in this months DVD Review magazine (comes with a free dvd that contains the fawlty towers episode The Germans) then the bog standard limit can be yours for £79.95, with DD itll cost £10 more.
