Page 1 of Samsung Player, Scart Lead and AV channel

Hi Guys. I just got my Samsung M105 player. I connected up with a Scart lead I bought separately. When I turned it on, I got the DVD menu scrolling down the screen and the sound from whatever television channel I had on. I was worried until I turned to the AV channel and then everything was alright. Other people I know, they don`t have to turn to the AV channel. Is it just a problem with Samsung players or could it be a bad or unsuitable scart lead?

It`s probably down to your TV. Some TVs don`t support pin 8 switching; it`s just a quirk and nothing to worry about.

How are you finding the performance of the DVDM105 ? Is it good ?

Doesn`t the fact that when I turn on the DVD player the screen changes to the DVD screen show that it supports 8-pin switching? It just doesn`t stay stable or play the sound until I switch to AV.

As for the player, I`ve found it to be excellent in every way. I don`t have a sophisticated home entertainment setup so I can`t say it`s perfect but for me, it has excellent picture, sound, it`s quiet and the remote`s good.

No, that`s pin 16 switching (which all RGB-capable TVs support). The idea behind this is that if pin 16 goes high and pin 8 stays low, the RGB graphics will be overlaid on top of the existing TV picture. This feature is used by closed caption decoders, for example. Obviously the two signals must be in sync, otherwise the RGB image won`t be stable.

What`s happening in your case is that the TV doesn`t acknowledge the fact that pin 8 is high, so rather than switch to AV it goes into "overlay mode".
