John Lewis Price Match

Richard Webb (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 6th September 2006, 16:00

I have read on a few threads about John Lewis price matching. I am after a Samsung LE32R74BDX, and have seen it on the internet for a lot less that what JL have it as, but I am drawn to the 5 years warranty, and te fact that they are on teh high street.

Does anyone know if they will price match internet prices?????

Thanks for your help.

Richard

No !
This is quite clearly mentioned on JL`s website. The matching product has to be in a "bricks and mortar" shop, in stock there and the price on display.
There a huge thread in the LCD section of UK AVforums about this and it`s a sticky thread so will always appear at the top.
Internet suppliers don`t have the same overheads so JL`s policy seems reasonable.
They will also match with other JL stores so it can pay to phone around different JL shops countrywide.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the reply, I thought that would be the case, I do take your point about overheads being more for a bricks and mortor store.

Cheers

I would double check that. They just told a friend of mine that it only applies to certain products.

They just done a price match (against an internet only retailer) for him and knocked £30 off an external hard drive that he was buying.

No harm in asking.

JL only match Shop prices anywhere in the UK only. Sometimes a product is cheaper on the internet, but the site also has a shop i.e. richer sounds, which JL will price match.

I recently purchased a top of range AEG Oven, and got JL to price match with a shop by reducing it by £250 also giving me free delivery (usually about £35). You give them the name of the shop and they`ll phone up asking for the price to confirm details, then they`ll refund you the money.

Personally I`d much prefer purchasing large electrical items from JL because of the extended warranty and excellent service I`ve always received from them. Other place I use, but they don`t price match and may be a bit more expensive is Costco C & C, but then you`ve got life long guarantee as long as you`ve got your membership.

p.s. JL`s web page prices are different from their instore, also their branches may also have different prices. i.e. if a local store is running a promotion next door to JL they only tend to have it reduced in that branch, rather than nationally.

I agree with Niteowl, JL do good guarantees and have top notch customer service.

Niteowl - what are the details of the Costco lifetime guarantee as I am a member?

Thanks

Nick

Hi Nick. In a nutshell almost anything you purchase from Costco, especially electrical if it goes wrong even after 8 years, just take it back (ideally with your receipt - but not an issue as they can always call it up from their database) and they`ll refund you the original money you paid, including VAT. But you must still be a valid member. I think though the rule might be slightly different on Pc`s or Laptops but you`ll need to check.

I purchased a Phillips LCD screen a few months back, I get 3 years call out at home warranty or take it back for a replacement/money back for the duration I still have membership.

(Effective 6th January 2003, Costco Wholesale`s desktop and notebook computer return policy is six months from the date of purchase. After six months from the date of purchase, all services and technical support will be subject to the applicable remaining manufacturer`s warranty)

Just give your local branch a Call for reassurance, especially if purchasing a desktop or notebook.

p.s. that reminds me I need to take my mums Tumble dryer back. It Cooks the cloths - thermostat`s gone I think. Only headache is carting large items back and forth.
