Surround sound question!

Moo.. (Elite) posted this on Monday, 15th October 2001, 19:04

my folks rent a tv from Box Clever and theyre looking to upgrade it. at the moment they have a tv with dolby pro-logic and i was looking at getting a tv for them with the same audio setup. however the bloke in the shop said that pro-logic was now `old hat` and most tvs have this 3d surround thing instead which has replaced the five speaker pro-logic. i thought the natural progression from this was dolby digital or DTS. now am i just behind the times or is this bloke talking out of his arse???

Sounds like real bottom blather to me.
I`ve got a Virtual Dolby Surround telly(which I guess is what he`s on about) and it`s a reasonable sound, it may be better than an "old" pro-logic set up. However, I also have a Kenwood home cinema amp (DD/DTS and Pro-logic) and it blows the telly sound system into the weeds.
If space is an issue, or technophobia, VDS works fine, but it`s only ever going to be 2 speakers and a s*** load of processing!
