RCE - does it affect the Wharfdale 750s?

HELEN (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 20th October 2000, 12:54

I have just read the RCE update - does anyone know if the 750s is affected? It does say the 750 had problems - but i haven`t seen anything on the 750s.

Anyone know anything?

I would say almost definately that the 750s won`t have problem`s with the currently released RCE discs because you can set it to a single region. On bypass / region free it will probably fail much like the Scan SC 2000 but this isn`t a big problem.

However I`ve yet to see this confirmed by someone who has the machine and an RCE disc but I will be extremely surprised if it doesn`t work.

Sorry to be the bearer of what might be bad news, but I bought my 750s yesterday direct from a Tesco store near my home, and the advertised hacks on this site DO NOT work.

It looks like this is the new one with the updated firmware, I can set it to multi-region using STEP, PREVIOUS, NEXT, and then reset it to R2 with SLOW, PREVIOUS, NEXT

But there seems to be no way so far to obtain R1 or any other region except R2 or MR on this new revision.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

Chris

Managed to get mine to set to region 1 with - open drawer - press 1,1,1,1 then 1 for region 1.

I got my dvd back in early September though - so i think mine is a different version - as the open, zoom A,B etc hack worked for me - so i`m not sure if this one will work on yours or not.

Hope you get it sorted.

Helen

My player accepts the 1111 + 1 or 2. I received my 750S from Tesc.com today.

I also bought a 750s this week direct from the store not the web site and the 1111 * hack doesn`t work.

Message seems to be order on line and get the same player but different ?!*

Can anyone confirm if their 750s was bought on line but DOES NOT support 1111 * hack ?

Incidentally when I went to my Tesco this afternoon they had both 750 and 750s on sale all lumped together in a pile.

Sounds like its pure pot luck on which of the 750s you will get. I`d try to return any that don`e have the region specific hack for one that does.

" I`d try to return any that don`e have the region specific hack for one that does."

err, why? even when set to region free they play the patriot fine, and the one without region specific hack is newer firmware (which is what you want, as obviously it fixes something).

I`d swap it simply because although the region free hack works at present its on dodgy ground.

I believe the only sure fire way of surpassing any form of RCE is to have a player that lets you set it to a specific region whenever you want.

Only way I can see the film companies working around that is to code in DVD Player detection technology into their disc`s and ban certain players (but that ain`t gonna happen).
