So, whats the verdict on Sky HD?

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Sunday, 2nd July 2006, 17:03

Thinking of moving onto the Sky HD service... so, from those that actually have it or have seen it in action, how is it and is it worth getting?

Thanks!

Giggity giggity!

Yup - I`m thinking about it too. I don`t know whether to wait a bit to see how popular it proves to be - and whether they`ll drop the monthly £10 subscription fee (or do what they did with Sky Plus - free if you have 2 or more premium channels).

One of my wifes work colleagues has it.
He`s a bit of a gadget freak so bought it to go with his plasma.
He confirmed what I have been saying for months.
£10 per month for the paltry extra offering is poor value.
He`s a movie buff, but finds himself watching National Geographic just to see something in HD.
So basically its a ripoff.
Wait for more HD channels to arrive to make it better value

I,ve had it since 05/06/06 and i must say it is superb, the picture quality will blow you away, granted if would be better with more channels but that will come in time and like sky+ i`m pretty sure the £10 a month will disappear. BBC HD as been amazing with Wimbledon and the WC, you`ll never go back once you have it :D I watched Sin City the other night on Sky movies HD and it looked and sounded fantastic, i`m well pleased with my purchase and don`t regret it for 1 minute. BTW i`m watching it on a Toshiba WLT58 lcd and did i say it looked great :D :D

I totally agree, brilliant picture but a severe lack of choice. Sport on the BBC and Sky Sports HD has been great, the downside being that it`s now difficult to watch the WC games that are broadcast on ITV in SD. Sky One HD is a total misnomer - there`s very little HD content on the channel but it was good to catch the end of 24 and Bones in HD. Maybe things will improve as the new series of Deadwood and Las Vegas start and (eventually) we get the new seasons of SG-1 and Atlantis. The BBC keeps showing tantalising glimpses of non-sport programmes but apart from early showings of Planet Earth and Bleak House it`s either been sport or endless preview clips. It looks as though things will improve later this month with Hannibal, Deep Blue and Pride being shown and the the new series Sorted is coming in HD. It`s a shame Dr Who isn`t being shown (yet).

I am thinking about getting it to go with my new Samsung LE32R73BD. I think I will wait for the choice to grow b4 I do though.
