Which is better the Tosh` 210e or the Pioneer 444?
Can`t find any reviews on the Pioneer, but plenty of
good reviews for the Tosh`.
Or is there A better machine around for the same
sort of money?

www.multiregionmagic.co.uk

Go for the Pioneer. I read (serious, you know like they`ve actually done extensive measurements and such) hardware tests on www.dv-rec.de about both the Tosh and the Pioneer. The Tosh seems to have some problems with CDR/CDRW discs than haven`t been burnt extremely well, where the Pioneer does fine. The Tosh seems to have some minor firmware glitches; Pioneer`s MP3 support is exemplary. Moreover the Pioneer`s drive mechanism is very quiet, almost imperceptible really (yeh right I own one). Picture quality of te Pioneer seems to be marginally beter, though you would have to own a very good TV to notice it (and use SCART RGB!).
Wouldn`t go for the Sony either. Lacks MP3 support, not a lot of connections etc. It`s a bit behind both Pioneer and Toshiba. An advantage of the Tosh over the Pioneer might be the price. Apart from these differences they are actually quite comparable, with the Toshiba having component video connections as a distinguising feature.
Cheers
