Cyberhome 528: RCE & dts decoder

Pawan (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 17th September 2001, 09:09

Does anyone know if CH 528 can play RCD discs?
Also, does it have a dts decoder built in?
The Home Entertainment magazine`s October issue says it has, but the tech specifications and user manual doesn`t mention anything about it.

Any answers...
Thanks v much

RCE - you may have to set the region to 1 rather than region free - then the RCE disc will see it as a region1 player, and not grumble.
DTS - isn`t there a logo on the front, there certainly is on the picture at http://www.cyberhome-help.de/tadl528_english.php4

Hahaha..

Have cyberhome-help used babelfish to translate this review, or what?? Here`s an excerpt:

"also the new model enqueues to the low-budget-class of DVD player. If he has to fight with childhood disease or technical problems, like a lot of players in ist price-class, will show up in the following first test report"

Fantastic, or what?

Richard,

thanks for reply.

Yes it is dts compatible, but my question is that if I have an analogue amp with six channel input connected to CH 528, when playing dts discs, will I get dts surround sound or not? In other words, does it provide decoded dts output from its six channels?

Thanks for help...

Agree about the translation - an absolute classic. But hey - you knew what they meant, didn`t you?

In answer to Pawan - yes, you will get DTS decoding from the 6 channel output. The optical/coax lead won`t have it, as that leaves it to the amp.

Yes my CH528 does play RCE (be it not very smooth because it doesn`t do PAL60) and yes it plays RCE even with the region free setting, so contrary to another reply you don`t have to set it to region 1. At least not on the RCE Hollow Man DVD.
Yes, it does do DTS both on digital and analogue outputs. However, I wouldn`t recommend it, because on digital output it reverses left/right channels and one channel is much louder than the other. It does this regardless of audio mode (analogue, Dolby, DTS and PCM). Furthermore, its MP3-playback is flawed, cutting off the beginning of every single track. Last but not least, on SCART output the image is offset to the left. SVHS is fine, though. I`ve done two firmware upgrades to no avail.

Marcomarc - Only said you *may* have to set it to R1 - I don`t have any RCE discs, so couldn`t say for definite.
My 512 is fine re DD and DTS on the analogue outputs - don`t have the kit to test digital outputs - SCART is also fine.
MP3 - no problem.
Looks like you need to take your player back and get another -I wouldn`t stand for the problems you have!

www.tinyaccessories.com - the DVD & speaker bundle at the top of the page (at the minute anyway - 18th Sept) anyone know what Cyberhome model that is?

Bought the speaker and DVD package, but couldn`t get any output from the centre speaker. Contacted Creative, who make the speakers, and when I told them that I was trying to use those particular speakers with a DVD player, they said that the speakers didn`t have DTS decoder built in.

Does that particular Cyberhome model have it?

Any ideas?

Colin_T - it looks like a 528 - the 512 has loads of small buttons between the tray and the round control. Both 512 and 528 have DTS decoding on board - the speakers don`t do it - I`d imagine you need to use the 6 channel output from the DVD player into the Creative system - that then just amplifies the already decoded signal.

Also, if you didn`t have DTS decoding, whgen you play a DTS disc you`d get silence - not just no centre.

Hope that helps!
