Help! Connecting DVD to my TV

Pawan (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 14th September 2001, 21:02

What is the best connection as I have 28" TV which has 1 scart with RGB and other scart without RGB. If I connect DVD to the scart with RGB, and connect my digital cable box to other scart, pictures from cable channels won`t be good. I don`t have a SVHS socket on back of TV. I have one in front, so in a worst scenario, I may have to use the SVHS connection on TV for the DVD player.

Has anyone used SVHS to scart converters (a scart male connection on one end with 3 A/V ports and an SVHS socket on other end)? Are they any good? If I use that to connect to a non-RGB scart, would I get a good picture quality?

Thanks everyone..

Have a dig around in your TV manual - it`s fairly unusual to not have an S-video enabled SCART socket when the other one is RGB-enabled. On my TV you have to "tell" the TV to switch over to S-video capability - you may find yours is the same : probably an "external" setting of some shape or form in your TV set up menu.

Then you can, presumably, set your DVD to output an S-video signal to your TV, and retain the RGB picture for your cable.

thanks for advise. yes it is possible to use the second scart for S-Video input using the remote. I have done as you mentioned.
