Pacific DVD 900 wiring diagram

AndyG_prs (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 25th February 2006, 17:18

Hi there,

My son wedged a dvd in the player and I had to take it apart to un-jam it. In the process I took off the back section that kind of juts out of the main chassis and has all of the SCART and other video connections housed in it. When looking down at the removed back section, there is a black wire on the left hand side soldered into the board on the back section itself. The other end has snapped off wherever it was soldered and I need to solder it back before re-assembling. Does anyone either have a picture of the inside of an intact Pacifc DVD 900, or a schematic or something else that might help? It seems a shame and a waste to have to buy a new DVD player for the sake of one stray wire.

Thanks in advance,
Andy

Look to how the wire is formed\bent\shaped & see in the area if you can locate the broken strand of the other end peeking out of a clean solder joint.

Best I can do under the circumstances.

Thanks, appreciated. However, I have tried that, and couldn`t find anything obvious, so still stuck.....

Andy

Being black it may just be an additional "common" lead, you could try running it without before you condemn it. :/

hi, not wishing to appear being too simple here, but if it has snapped off from somewhere there HAS TO BE be evidence of its remnants visible on the main board . If the bare end has a clean cut and no core showing, like rassilon says, its likely to be a spare common and safe to try running without it terminated.

Hi,

You`re both spot on. I had been searching the circuit board for the snapped connection. Once a common connection was suggested, I checked the inside of the chassis and could see where it had come loose from.

Now, however, I have a new problem. With DVD tray open, pressing the open/close only works intermittently and is helped by some pressure to the front of the tray (eg in the direction for it to close) - however once it has closed, the motor continues to turn (unless this is the sound of something else moving). Then, pressing the eject does nothing. If I push the try half way out (as I have the unit open) it then finished the eject motion by itself.

Is it possible that there is some kind of sensor to tell the thing when it is open and closed fully? If not, I fear the mechanism is screwed and I don`t have the expertise to take it to pieces to try to resolve.

Any kind of `reset` procedure known if it is down to sensors etc?

Thanks,
Andy

its likely that the jamming of the unit in the first instance has knocked it all out of sync, with the motor system completing what it believes is a full open/close manouver when its all to cock,
the simplest way to correct it, if u feel comfortable enough to try it with the power ON and top cover off , is to loosen off the top of the sliding mechanism enough to allow the runners off the rails when the system starts up, then , once it has completed a full manouver all should be ok to tighten back up, ( this may take a few attempts to get spot on )
if there IS an optic sensor on this system,u`ll need make sure the passthru ( the part that the sensor activates off ) isnt damaged or dislodged , it should be towards the rear of the drawers sweep if there is one.

as for a " one code clears all " kinda reset, i dont know of any mate, sorry on that score, but the above has worked for me a few times in the past :)
happy tinkering

It may be that every DVD is different, but I`m struggling to see where I can loosen the sliding mechanism. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Andy

in many cases the slinding unit will be self contained and held in-place by only a couple of screws at the back with the front snapped against the front facia. others, have a two part unit again just snap lock together.in a worse case senario, the fixings could be on the underside of the main board but thats not a major prob if ur happy to also remove the base panel ( do this with the power off !!!! lol )
dont worry about taking things off ur unit, as long as u keep an eye out for screws that are varying in length and return them from whence they came, u cant do too much damage than u already have.
if u can access the worm/screw thread that is the operating mechanism, it may be poss to prise it off the motorwind with a screwdriver, run the drawer thru an open/close and relocate once settled into rest. failing that mate, u may have to fork out some pennies :(
