Hello,

For some time I had been researching various DVD recorders. It needed to fill quite a few requirements. Hard Disk, DivX enabled, Multi-region and 5.1 Analogue outputs with a built in decoder. Initially I was going to go for a Liteon from Argos but by chance found this Yamada instead which ticked all the boxes I need, including a 250GB Hard disk. I`ve had it for a about 2 weeks now and I reackon its a decent wee model.

The odd thing is though, I can hardly find anything documented about it apart from european electrical retailers and the place in the UK where I found it was here:

Personally I think its quite a bargain. What do you chaps think? :)

It doesn`t appear to have have a digital tuner.
Can`t see the point in having a hard disc recorder that can only record crappy 4:3 analogue images tbh.

Well thats easily solved you just run a Scart lead from a Digibox like I have done, plus the fact is that I wouldn`t be able to get my Top-Up TV even if I did have a Digital Tuner with it as there is no card slots included with them to my knowledge. I`d class that as a minor niggle... :)

A major niggle in my view if the recorder is unable to fully interface with the digibox and its EPG ... ie switch it on, select the right channels at the correct time and record for the correct length of time in the way a DTV hard disc recorder would.
And even with the arrangement you describe there is still only one digital tuner - it would not be possible to watch one DTV channel while recording another.

I see your point but that still doesn`t solve the fact that you could not have top-up TV via the tuner even if you have one, and the whole twin tuner thing in the player doesn`t phase me due to the setup of my system as our HD ready TV has one built in anyway...

I suppose its all really down to personal preference really, but I`m damn chuffed with it.

;)
