Budget systems

I have been considering here buying a DVD player however since visiting this sight and shops I have come to the conclusions that I need a full set up. I want to do this on the cheap.

I have seen some cheapish av amps with DTD DD.

I am considing a toshiba 210 player.

Now in terms of speakers could I pick say a couple of pairs of Ariston speakers from RS fo £15 a pair and then a centre speaker from there as well? A subwoofer is something I could possibly leave for later on if needed.

How do you think this would compare with any of these all in a box jobbies that appear to be approx £500.

Any thoughts would be aprreciated.

The Ariston speakers are not much cop, unless you are desparate for some rears - they are a lot smaller than the look on the web site! I bought a pair to run as second speakers into the kitchen - wouldn`t recommend them for fronts.
Are you intending to use the amp as your main amp - i.e. to listen to CDs too? If so, I think the word is to avoid Sherwood, and go for Yamaha, Denon or maybe that new Onkyo. Look at http://www.hifijunkies.co.uk - prices somethimes cheaper than Richer, and free delivery (never used them (yet) - there have been some good comments about them though, and the prices are good!).
If you`re going for the Toshiba, from all accounts it will do sterling service playing CDs too, so what with that and an AV receiver, you`ll have a nice little system.
Difficult choices, but "the quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten" - definitely worth going for something that will last you a reasonable time, and which can be upgraded. I`d be tempted to get front speakers only, and run it 2 channel, until you can afford a centre and some rears. Or maybe you have some old speakers that can be pressed into service as rears for the time being?

Decisions, decisions....

At the risk of sounding like a Yamaha rep here, the Tosh 210e coupled with the Ymaha vs10 cinema kit will give you an excellent starting ground before you step onto the seperates ladder. It has 5 speakers,a subwoofer, and a neat little processor/amplifier unit and sounds the business. The price? A mere £350.
Top stuff and well worth the money.
Check out the home cinema forum at www.area450.co.uk to read my review on this ace product.
All in your system will set you back no more than £600.

All the best lad
