camcorder pc editing

Hi,
I am trying to get a new camcorder which enables me to edit the video footage on my pc, but I am a little confused.
I have got it down to a choice of 2, one has dv in and out, the other has dv out and usb connection.
Which one is the best connection to edit the video footage on a pc?

Steve.

The dv out and usb connection are what you use to get the video off the camera and onto your PC. DV out would be the connection of choice (also known as Firewire, IEEE1394 or i-link...all the same thing).

DV in is found on more expensive versions normally, the difference being that once you`ve edited the video on your PC, you can send the finished video back the other way to the camera if you want to record it back to tape to show others, rather than burning it to a dvd on your PC. If have dv in on my camcorder, but to be honest, never used it yet, although I didn`t pay a premium for it as I bought it online so still a good bit cheaper than the shops were.

You connect the camera to the PC by Firewire if you have the connection on your PC (if you haven`t got Firewire on your pc already, add in cards aren`t very expensive), then use you video editing software (even the built in Windows Moviemaker is good for getting the hang of things) to capture the video from the camera to your hard drive. Then play around with it to your hearts content until you get it how you want it, add titles, effects etc.

Don`t forget video editing takes up a lot of processing power so make sure your PC is suitable (you don`t say the specs).
