Can anybody give me advice on these machines. I`m unsure at the moment which would be the best machine as they both have 80GB hdd and DV in socket for camcorder copying, I need to transfer some family video. Any advice on these models would be appreciated .

I would go for the Pioneer because of RGB input which makes a big difference to recorded picture quality. JVC dvd recorders are best avoided because of the glaring omission of RGB scart leaving you with S-video as your best input connection and S-video ports are quite rare on freeview boxes so always make sure you buy a dvd recorder with RGB input.
