I have an Archos gmini400 and want to power it in my car. The archos car adapter is 5v output, but I don`t want to pay the price, so I was wondering can I use any old adapter as long as it is 5v output?

Check the amperage as well.
i.e. the current output - if similar to the input required, then it is fine
