Page 1 of DVD recorder blurring colours....!?

I`m having quite a strange problem, and I`m hoping someone here is familiar with this. I have a pretty cheap Ellion 900A from Amazon, that for the most part does the job. But it`s had a problem since day one that (rather naively) I`d hoped would just disappear over time. When playing back recordings it seems to struggle with deep colours, particularly reds, giving them the appearance of "wobbling", or blurring and smearing. It doesn`t matter which quality recording length I use the result`s the same. The recorder is used to record from a Telewest digital cable box, via RGB scart. If it`s something I`m doing wrong then please, if you can help I`d be very grateful.

goto the setting on the telewest box change the setting so it does dont say compivice video this should inprove your picture
when recording use gold scart leads this gives a sharper picture also
