Connecting my speakers to my DVD player, help

chiefGummage (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 9th August 2005, 17:56

Hi, I`m sure this is an easy problem to resolve. But not sure how to go about it. I have 5.1 speakers from an old dvd home cinema system (Hitachi). The speakers are nice and havent been used, but, connect to the DVD player (which is now broke) through basic black and red wires. I need these wires to connect to the normal inputs for a phillips dvd player, but dont know what i need to do to them so they will work.

thanks

You can`t connect speakers directly up to a DVD player (unless it is a one box home-cinema item).
Speakers need to be connected to speaker outputs of a suitable amplifer.

It may have a decoder built in, but it has no amplification. You will need a suround amp to get going.

All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

Yes.
But if you get something like that I suggest you buy a decent set of speakers rather than use the remains of an inferior all in one system

Richer Sounds usually have a bargain or two.
The Eltax Sovereign package knocked down from £250 to £70 looks good value.
