Page 1 of Toshiba vs. Pioneer
Hardware Forum
Power surge took out my (fairly old) DVD player yesterday, so I`m off down to Richer Sounds today to get a new Toshiba (which I will be sure to cable up surge protected!) -
SD240 - £59.95
SD340E - £79.95
SD530 - £119.95
Any opinions or good/bad experiences with these? Any input would be appreciated, otherwise I`ll just throw myself on the mercy of the (admittedly very helpful) Richer staff.

Sacked them all and got the Pioneer DV575 at £99.99 instead. It`s a seriously impressive machine! I hadn`t realised how long my old Tosh was taking to navigate round menus etc., the Pioneer is instantaneous..
I already have a new £70 Pioneer player and I hate it. It has an on screen display which can`t be turned off. For example when I use slow motion, there is a blue banner at the top of the screen telling me I`m using slow motion.
I also have a 4 year old Toshiba SD110E which I like.It has a remote control with buttons that will get me to Search (Title and Time), A-B repeat and Title/Chapter repeat instantly.
It`s the Pioneer that has a complicated menu which takes many key presses to get to Search and repeat.
Perhaps new Toshibas are different but I know that I`ll never buy a Pioneer again.
