I have recently bought one for my dad and I have been quite pleased with the image and sound quality. I have a Wharefdale 750 and it compares quite well in terms of performance. The downside is that it does not have a pretty front panel, just a plain 2 digit red led number display, but the onscreen display is more than adequate. It has the added advantage of being reasonably small and the remote control is nicely featured.

The multi-region works quite well and easily controlled via the remote.

I nice thing that is not mentioned in the Richersounds advert is that it plays MP3`s and VCD`s which makes the £99 an absolute bargain!

I hope this helps!

Or in Richer Sounds look at the Cyberhome ADM512 (You will have to reserve as sell fast !). Very good picture and sound. Easy Multiregion and macro off (You will need a CDR to do it - or pay RS £20). The remote is cool as it glows in the dark...not sure why you would need that but is handy when watching films in bed.
They have also got a cheapo player for £89 now but looks a bit naff.. not sure what make. oh yea and their brilliant warranty for £19.99 for 3 years ! includes a loan machine while being repaired

The £89 player is a Himage. Previously £149.99, so might be OK but I have no experience of it.

Graham, I bought this player a couple of days ago and am quite happy except for one problem which hopefully you can help me with.

I need to output R1 discs as Pal as I only get B&W pictures in NTSC. This is fine except I`ve noticed a "stutter" on the sound on some discs, namely MI2 and Meet the Parents so far. I know the discs are ok as I`ve played them on my Samsung 909 which can also output in Pal50.

Have you found any problems with R1 discs or do I have a faulty player?

We got the limit, and dad is pretty happy. he doesn`t need macro off so its not a problem. I`m pretty impressed with the quality of picture. Sound is slightly quiet, but hey all remotes have volume up buttons.

Recommend it if you are looking for a cheap entry point so you can start collecting discs.

Jane have you tried any R1 discs yet? I`m having a stuttering sound problem with R1 discs when using Pal output.

Trying to figure out if the player is faulty or not?

Hello Janice,

I have not noticed any problems, but I will checkout MI2 as I also have the Region 1 version. I will let you know how I get on.

Cheers, Graham
