You`re a relatively new member, so here`s a bit of advice: Before you ask a question, there is a search facility at the top of the forum - you can search in a specific forum, or through all of them.
Searching for information about co-axial cables or optical cables brings up a couple of threads which have discussed this very decision recently:
PS I think you`re getting a bit confused about all this as well - co-axial and optical leads carry the *digital audio* signal from your DVD player to your Amplifier. A scart cable can only carry analogue stereo sound, and goes from DVD player to TV. You can`t get Dolby Digital through a scart, so it`s not really a decision between Scart and Optical/co-ax. You may need to tell us what your kit is so we can understand properly, but I hope this helps.
Oh yeah, I`ve just checked through your record and it turns out you`ve posted effectively the same question 3 times - this is rather a good way to really cheese people off and ensure you don`t get any help. Please refrain from muliple postings like this, as it is contrary to forum rules. I have deleted some of your threads to clean things up. Now, it seems you have a Tosh collection of hardware, but no amp. However, your model TV has Dolby Digital processing so you WILL NOT get the best sound if you use the L/R phono cables or a SCART. You will ONLY get Dolby Digital, which is one of the best things about DVD, if you cannect using a Co-ax or optical. It doesn`t really matter which of those two you use, but you`ll probably be able to walk into a shop and buy a mid-range one for £25-35 which will suit you fine.

I have been told that it would be best to use the s-video with L and R audio, but what about optical/digital connections? Also what cables would you recommend to get the best out of the system without spending a fortune, and where should I buy them? I know very little about DVD and am a first time buyer. -----------
