Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
Okay guy`s you`ve helped before I hope u can help me again!
I`ve recently bought a Phillips widescreen TV ( ex rental) that u guy`s helped me decide to get.
I`m extremely pleased with it........awesome picture BUT...........I don`t understand something about the picture zooms/ratios!
Let me explain!
If I have the TV sert @ superzoom ( a 4.3 stretch mode) & use this for a few channels on Sky Digital & then switch to say BBC1 on Sky the TV automatically switches to wide mode.........correctly, but when I then return to one of the previous channels I have been watching it doesn`t go back to superzoom! It goes back to 4.3 ratio!
Now there wouldn`t be anything particularly wrong with this BUT if I am on superzoom on Sky & turn on me DVD player the TV firstly stays in superzoom while the DVD logo is displayed then correctly switches to wide mode as the film starts & then when I switch the DVD off the TV goes back to the previous channel that was viewed & guess what...........it goes back to superzoom NOT 4.3???
The annoying thing about this is this doesn`t happen all the time!
Sometimes when I`m on superzoom & play a DVD it stay`s on superzoom! Hope u understand what I`m talking about here........maybe someone has the same or similar TV?
So guys I have 2 questions!
1) Why does the TV not store the previous zoom setting after watching wide on the TV?
2) Why does it appear to be erratic on DVD`s?
Once again appreciate any help!
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
sorry, can`t help with the picture, but where did you get your ex rental telly and how much,i want one!!!!!!!!
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
Phillips 28PW6322 for £219 from Box Clever ( radio rentalls) + 12 months warranty...................superb picture.......especially through RGB!
Don`t think they are selling em at this price now though........a mate reckons they are £299 now...........even so an excellent telly, much better than all the " budget" tellies I had a look at!
Having said that Scottish Power are now doing a 28" widescreen for £299 that looked like it had a good picture, it`s a Mitsibushi Black Diamond!
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
use the yellow button on the handset to access the features menu, scroll down to store pp, tell it yes with the left arrow, then press the yellow button to exit. Ive got mine set up for wide screen, but it still defaults to auto format sometimes. the BBC don`t help when they transmit 4:3 footy with blue bands down each side either.
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
So the store pp all button actually stores the widescreen mode then?
I`ll have to have a play around with all the settings again then!
Thanks Kevin.
BTW I know it`s all about personal taste but out of interest what settings do u use for brightness/contrast etc?
Of all the smart presets the natural setting seems the best, but I have turned the contrast & sharpness down a bit.
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
i found the natural setting to be the best but use rich with my dvd on the scart. tried adjusting but couldn`t get much better. try using the same settings as natural in manual mode and see the difference.
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
Cheers Kevin.
Have noticed that if u use RGB for DVD from scart1 for me the natural setting is about right, I`ve just turned the contrast & sharpness down a bit.
Quite good if u play around with the settings then wanna resort back to the previous setting just hit the PP green button under the flap on the remote.............nice touch!
On my previous Tosh TV I had to have the brightness up over 1/2 way to get anything like the same brightness levels the Phillips produces at 1/3 of it`s scale. Also found the RGB signal on the Phillips produces better blacks than the S-video connection, whereas the Tosh was the complete opposite!
How long have u had the telly & what`s your overall opinion of it, any problems etc?

RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
was it the"Philips 28" Widescreen TV with Dolby Pro Logic" @ £249.99
looks good and a great buy.
Does it come with a stand? and appart from stuff youve stated, is it good?
looking to buy widescreen tv myself
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
I`ve had the set about a year now. can`t fault it. I had a problem with coloured patch at bottom of screen but found it was caused by my amp being too close, moved the amp, end of problem!.as I`m renting the set I was offered a stand but turned it down to use my own
kevin.
RE: Keeping the picture to fill the screen!
The prologic version was £289 when I bought mine.
I didn`t need a prologic version as I have a an Amp etc.
I wasn`t offered the stand but like Kevin I knew I didn`t need it anyway as I already had a stand for all my equipment/telly.
Personally I think the TV is excellent & it will certainly do for me until I can afford a flatscreen or Plasma later on when finances allow.
There`s a review of the 32" version of my TV @ home cinema choice online Test bench if u wanna know any more.
