Well I wouldn`t be suprised if that was the size it came off the camera, and not shrunk down again. Right click > Properties shows that it`s size is 1600 x 1200, so multiply the two together and you get 1920000, or 1.92 million pixels - so 2Mb. HOWEVER, a 2Mb camera with a good lens will produce something like this, whereas a 4Mb camera with a crappy lens will produce worse results - so a simple resolution check will not tell the whole story.

I would say a 3-4Mb camera froma decent manufacturer with OPTICAL zoom would give you decent results. Take a look here for a good summary of decent camers - the "picks" are split into different criteria.

Thanks Richard, So The quality of the lens is more important than the number of pixels, Excellent.

Yes and no,a 1.3 with a great lens will not give you a better picture then a 4mb with the same lens,go for a 3.5 to 5 mb camera from Fuji,Canno,Pentax,Nikon,Olympus.ect and read the reviews first.

If you look at your photos on a 1600 x 1200 monitor, then 2 MP are all you can see, any more are wasted.

But if you zoom in or print, more pixels are needed.

Generally 3 MP are considered `OK` for up to A4 prints - obviously more pixels are better (can`t make up for a poor lens though).

P.S. I have a 3.2 MP Konica.

Yep that would produce photos better than what is above!

The lens on those Canon cameras is superb.

The only issue is that 5MP may be slightly overkill for what you need...you could go with the new range of Canons that have replaced the A75 / A85 and A95. This one is more compact than the old model and features the same quality lens. It`s also a a good £80 cheaper (although it`s just 3.2MP rather than the 5MP of the link you provided).

But to answer your question, the one you found on Amazon would do you fine :)

I can vouch for the konica`s, my old 2.1 mega konica takes much, much better outdoor pics than either my 3.1 mega ricoh & my dad`s 4 mega cannon :/ (although the ricoh has a fantastic macrofor close up`s @ 1cm which makes it ace for doing jewelry photo`s on ebay)
