Denon or Sony Amp?

Paul Marsden (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 16th June 2001, 01:03

I`m a newie to Home cinema and after months of pondering I have decided to purchase a Pioneer 535 player. Next up is an amp.

I am currently considering a Denon AVR1801 or Sony DB840.

Any comments on quality / problems experienced with these amps would be appreciated. My budget is about £300 so any info on other amps would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

They are both good amps, but if you are planning to use it for CD playback then it is the Denon every time. It is alot more musical.

Hope this helps,

All the best,

Andrew.

and yes mr brucey boy is correct, for music replay, the denon sings beautifully.

Thanks chaps. I`m now looking at the Sony STRDB940 as Richer sounds havce an offer on at the moment any thoughts on this or is it stil the Denon 1801?

I must admit my only concern with the Denon is the spring clip speaker connects - do these make a lot of difference?

Denon have used spring clips insted of banana binding posts as these are cheaper in manufacturing terms, therefor allowing this money to be used internally. (where it realy counts) also once installed you should not need to touch or see the rear panel.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Andrew.
