Any thought on the Phillips 28PW6322/05 TV?

lees (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 26th May 2001, 09:27

I can get an ex rental Phillips TV ( 28PW6322/05) for £219 & for £20 more get a full 12 months on site warranty. What`s peoples opinions of this TV, is it a good buy & how well does it display 4.3 pictures full screen? ( I know, I know.............it`s for the wife)
I have seen this TV display analogue pictures, what`s it like with DVD`s & sky digital? The woman in the shop ( box clever) told me that of all the TV`s they rent the Phillips range are the most reliable.........I know she trying to get a sale, but Phillips do make most of the tubes in TV`s anyway don`t they?
Appreciate any response guy`s!!

That is an outrageous bargain, considering it first retailed at £1000.

Home Cinema Choice loved it - go here :

Pull down Televisions, and tap in `philips` - the review for this telly is about halfway down - they absolutely adored it.

Definitely go for it mate - that is the bargain of the year in my book, mate !

I just had a look, very impressive review. I also found a home entertainment review that rated it " best budget widescreen" for........£900!
I`m gonna go for it . Thanks for your help.

You`re more than welcome.

Definitely take out the 12 month warranty too - I think for £30 it`s well worth it. If you have a Barclaycard, buy it on that, and then you`ll get an extra year`s warranty for nowt too.

Happy viewing.

Incidentally - I`m well jealous ;-)

I install teles for a living and although the 6322 is getting on a bit, its a cracker. We use these for rental stock now and just to give you an idea we are selling an ex-rental one for £299 so my advice is go for it, but get the waruntee cause you don`t know who`s had it before you!

Thanks for all your help on this, much appreciated.
I do have one question though.
Does this TV have an " auto" mode or similar that will display 4.3 broadcasts etc in widescreen? ( It`s for the wife)
I`ve seen something like " superzoom" on this TV. Is this the mode?
BTW I will hopefully pick this TV up tomorrow!

Thanks guys I`ve now got it home & all I can say is WOW!
I`ve connected it to SKY digital using scart 1 (RGB) & my Tosh DVD player to scart 2 ( S-video) & the result is absolutely excellent pictures.
Very, very pleased & now all I want to do is watch ALL my DVD`s again!
It`s just like when I got my new DD system a couple of months ago.
Once again, thanks for your help.

BTW: The superzoom does the trick for autoformat etc.
Also the telly switches automatically to widescreen as soon as it recognises the widescreen flag!

ps I`m chuffed to bits & surprisingly so`s the wife!

Cheers clayts,
I`ve since tried my DVD on RGB & the picture just got BETTER. I always thought that an S-Video connection for DVD was best, coz up until the other day I had owned a Tosh telly which didn`t display RGB very well
This Phillips TV absolutely thrives on the RGB feed!
I have now used my Pace digibox as an RGB passthrough & connected my DVD player & I now get RGB through SKY & DVD!!!!
I just have to keep pinching myself. I`m driving the missus mad saying " look at the quality of the pictures on that telly" & going on & on about it! he he he !!!!
Once again thanks!
ps DVD`s do look superb on a widescreen TV don`t they!
