The Sony misses the crucial DIVIDE feature on the HDD,making it next to useless for editing. It means if you copy a block of programmes over from Sky+,or maybe VHS,you cannot divide the block into separate programmes for editing.
I believe this machine and the Sony 1000 are now discontinued, although they are still in the shops. But get the Pioneer instead

All the Sonys bar the HX1000 are now discontinued. Yes this is a bit of an issue on for HDD recordings, but you can still get round it with a bit of creative editing via A/B and so on.

Having used both machines, I`d go for the Sony (900 or 1000, theres only the HDD size thats different) simply for the better picture quality - The Pioneers ok for the money, but the lack of a decent video chipset and component / prog out is simply unforgiveable now by Pioneer whom have not got it right since the DVR7000 :(
