DVD-R - Disc Speed - Help

JoeS (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 7th February 2005, 20:12

This may seem a basic question but my Panny E55 (In the brochure) says to use dvd-r disc speed 1- 4x.
I have used some datawrite classic 8 x dvd-r and verbatim 8x without any problems.
On reading the box for some other fuji and maxell discs I have which are 4x its says that using the discs with the wrong speed may damage the driver.
Am I safe to use 8x?

Some folks have had problems using the faster discs. I doubt if you`ll damage the recorder, but, reliabilty of the recording may suffer. I wouldn`t use them, and I don`t use them.

Yes you are safe to use the discs. The 8x means they are suitable for use in burners 8x and below.

these days i only ever seem to use 4-8X discs, no ill effects as yet (& i tend to use cheapish ones rather than "branded") the only exception was gen3, 4x datawrite reds, but they wouldn`t work in the pc either :(
