Pioneer DV626D, Found it at a very cheap price, Anybody know about it?

Trickpaul (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 15th May 2001, 21:14

I have just visited the dark side, i went to Currys in search of a DVD player at a cheap price.
And i was amazed to find the Pioneer DV626D for £189.97. I know its old but it looks good in reviews and for that price, its great.

It would be helpful if anybody has or knows of this player so they can , hopefully, give me some info on this player. e.g is it multi-regional or how can it be made multi-region , RCE, how it performs, any problems encountered etc.

Any reply will be grateful once again

Hi,

that is a fantastic price for that player.

I bought mine about 7 months ago for £249 as an end of line stock clearance at curry`s. It was the best player under £500 at the time, and probably still is.

I use my 626d as both dvd and cd player, connected to a technics su-v300 stereo amp and grundig 32" wide screen tv. Fantastic sound and picture. Only problem i`m having at the moment is finding a workable multi region hack for it. if you find one let me know.

Hey chaps,
Fine machine,if a little old now. Most of the circuitry can be found in its succesor the 636d.I ll forgive you this time for taking a trip to electrical hell tho!!
As a general rule of thumb all Pioneer dvds(bar the new entry level dv340)are locked to region2,so im afraid a trip in a courier van to get it modified is the only way your Pioneer will play overseas discs.
Dont let its age put you off, this is a fab machine and for the silly money you paid for it,whos complaining.I just hope you`re giving it the respect it deserves and using some decent connections! Dvd deserves Dolby!

One good point to note is that if you`re on the lookout for a cheap upgrade path and have spotted a cheap pro logic amp with 6channel inputs-then bear in mind that the 626 has one of the best dolby/dts decoders ever fitted to a dvd player. The dts decoding in particular is razor sharp and better than some budget recievers on the market today.

The 626 is known to give problems with certain discs ie t2 special
as it cannot handle the complicated menus. There was an article on this very site about a year ago.
