Page 1 of Scart to Svideo

If I run a scart>svideo cable from my Sky box (not Sky+) to my amp, which then connects via svideo to the TV, will I get a colour picture?

Just read a thread on another site that thinks there may be problems as the cable is not a convertor. Is this the case? And if so, what is the purpose of this cable if it doesn`t convert the signal?

Svideo can be output from a device as a minidin (the wee round one) plug or as a scart plug.

Most TV`s only have the minidin connector, hence you get the scart to svideo converter lead (and sometimes it`s the player has the minidin and the TV only has the scart)

It won`t convert the player output, but if you have an SVideo capable TV, check it`s inputs as to which one is S enabled.
(if you look at the little imprinted scart thing beside the scart sockets, the one like a small TV screen with in and out arrows, this sometimes has an S on or in it, that generally signifies S vid capability)

Set your player output to PAL only.
Play a disc.
If it`s black n white, and "meshed" in appearance, the input you plugged into is not SVideo capable.

My DVD outputs to svideo through my amp and this is all fine.Its my Sky box that I`m unsure of. It`s linked direct to the TV with scart. I want to do away with the scart>tv and run scart>svideo into the amp, thus one svideo cable to the tv.

As long as the skybox has SVideo as an option in it`s output menu, it should be fine.
Sky+ has a dedicated minidin for SVid, can`t remember about standard Digiboxes :/

We`ve gone through two standard Sky digiboxes and neither of them allow S-video output.

Oh well, have to save up for Sky+

The only standard Sky digiboxes with S-video out were the later Grundigs/Thomsons.
