Page 1 of Tevion MD 80032 DVD Recorder from Aldi - How can I reset it when I can`t see the Menu?

I managed to overcome most of the problems experienced by matt12345 and others in an earlier thread and eventually got my Aldi MD 80032 DVD Recorder working more or less happily.

Then, stupidly, in trying to improve the picture, I clicked the wrong thing in the Setup menu and the tv screen went blank!! I`ve tried everything to get it back but no luck. Everything works OK but although I can access the Setup menu I can`t see what I am doing as there is no picture.

I made the error in Setup, Video, I think, when I was presented with 3 choices in a sub-menu - CrYMn - RGB - CrYMn/RGB off. RGB was already ticked and I clicked on the CrYMn [I can`t remember letters exactly]. Disaster! Big flash and screen disappeared. TV still works on its own, but nor through DVD.

How can I get out of this mess? Factory reset? Heavy hammer? Hopefully someone out there has the answer.

Is your remote like this out of curiosity ?

What you`ve done by the sounds of it is knock the Progressive Scan feature on, which means that the TV screen goes black if your TV can`t handle the signal.

The only way to get around it is to reset it - can you use the manual to go back into the set up menu blind, and reset it (i.e. press the arrows and buttons on your remote and you`ll have to visualize the menu, I`m afraid).

Sadly, Sampo didn`t see fit to stick a P.SCAN/NORM button on the remote, as they have done on other products of theirs....

Thanks for the advice. I already tried to Reset by working blind, but will have another bash. The trouble is that Setup - Video - sub menu where I went wrong isn`t covered in the Manual and my memory may be letting me down. The Setup - System - Reset is covered but doesn`t respond when I think I`m there!

You mentioned that the TV [which is an older model] may not be able to handle the signal. Might a newer TV be able to handle it OK?

The remote is a bit different. I`ll send a scan of the TEVION DVD RECORDER 80032 REMOTE by Email

Cheers, that would be very helpful : are the screenshots different to the ones here - I suspect they are, as the MD80032 is one of the later batch of recorders with, I think, a new chipset...dunno who the manufacturer is though : need someone to send me some fotos of the inside (hint...)

Appears you may have altered the VIDEO OUTPUT, it should be RGB on...

The following input on the remote should take you back to factory re-set & allow you to access the menu..

Setup
Right
Down
Down
Right
Enter
Left
Enter.

Are you able to capture GUI screenshots from your recorder ? We would really welcome having them at Area 450 - email me from the board if you can help :D

Unfortunately not at the moment, have no way to capture them other than with digi.camera
and the results are poor..
If i manage to sort it out another way I will let you know.

If you were in Notts I`d invite you round...only trouble is, I`d end up unscrewing the recorder and taking it to bits to take some more photos.

Incidentally, could either of you please try the following - no guarantees, mind :

Press power, open, hold zoom button for 5 seconds, press 7,2,0,0, enter.

May be, but probably not, a hack ;)

Hey, that`s okay....
At least yours is working... mine was returned 3 weeks ago,to many faults to list,phoned twice for a progress report,spoke to their `NO HELP AT ALL LINE`, appears they are `Awaiting a shipment from Germany` now so sick of waiting, have asked for refund.. might look at buying a LG !.
