Page 1 of AAA Batteries for MP3 Player?

I got a 512Mb (more than I need ;) ) MP3 Player for Christmas, but I`ve noticed the normal alkaline batteries I use only last 2 hours. Kind of disappointing, so I ordered a recharger and some NIHM Rechargeable 800 mAh batteries. I`m no expert on this kind of thing, but I understand that the higher the "mAh" the longer they last between each charge. 800 was the highest I could find for AAA batteries. Will these last a lot longer before becoming flat (just talking one session) than normal batteries?

Make sure you fully charge and fully flatten them for the first couple of times (say 4-5) and you will get the best life out of them.I have noticed alot of battery operated items seem to advise against the use of re-chargeable batteries recently not sure why tho ;) my smoke alarms and remote control`s seem to last longer with good quailty duracell`s etc than the re-chargeables :D

re-chargables are no good (and not very safe) for smoke alarms or any item thats gonna discharge them slowly, but in an mp3 player/radio etc they are much better than normal batteries, ni-cad aren`t brilliant, but if you got nimh (nickel metal hydride (sp) or li-on (lithium ion, i think) they should last longer than alkalines espesially if they are 750mah or higher, tbh i had a 256meg flash memory mp3 player & the battery life on that was bobins, but i got it up to 3-4 hours with decent re-chargables.

Cheers, that`s what I wanted to hear. I`ll follow your advice. One ordinary battery lasts 2 hours, so if I can double that then it`s a bonus :D

At least I don`t need to have batteries in it to use it as a storage device though.

just a quick add on i work a lot with systems that require rechargeable batterys. even though you have completely discharged them on the first use you need to discharge them completely every now and then to prevent them creating a memory affect. although mem affect isnt as bad in lion batrys and other newer one it still causes problems after a while.

One of the "features" of LiIon and NiMh batteries is that they *don`t* get memory effect!
Only NiCad should be affected by memory problems.

Well they are "NiMh" (I still have no idea what that means), so sounds good.

They haven`t arrived yet, better come tomorrow or else I`ll have to wait till next Wednesday.
