Which Multi Region Player .. ?

MickG (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 4th May 2001, 11:56

Hi

I have a Sony DVPS335 player and want to get it chipped, but it will cost me £125 to do so.

Is this worth it ? or is there a good Region 0 player out there anyone can recommend

Mick

No, I don`t think it`s worth paying almost the cost of a new player to have your Sony chipped.

You`re better off putting the money towards a hackable, RCE-compliant player like the Samsung 511 - or else selling your Sony and buying a ready-chipped, RCE-friendly player from somewhere like Link Online.

Mike

I see you can buy the chip on http://www.dvdchips.co.uk/, for $38 - do you know if it is easy to Install them ?

It is easy to fit if you can solder reasonably well. (Dunno if you`ve ever "chipped" a Playstation, but it`s no more difficult than that.)

However, note that the 335 mod sold by DVD Chips does *not* let you play RCE discs! This may not concern you now, but it`s likely that RCE will be used on a lot more Columbia and Warner discs in the future.
