Page 1 of dvd buffs whaz iz thiz prob?

my dvd player on certain films ie r1 little nicky and r1 what lies beneath throughout the film now and again the picture format alters between 16.9 and full picture res what is ganning on my dvd set at 16.9 and its spot on on 90% of my films any info please:?

does your tv have a option which auto detects black bars (ie. can it detect non-anamorphic widescreen and zoom it automatically) as auto wide can play up and cause this problem (some Sony tvs have this problem), it it annoys you try turning it off (it will be in one of the tvs menus), after switching it off the tv should still go in to anamophic mode automatically if you use anamorphic widescreen dvds but you will have to manually zoom non-anamorphic widescreen dvds.

thanks for the info the tv is a grundig 32 w you can adjust aspect ratios with a button from panaromic 16.9 14.3 etc but nothing auto detect it only happens on a couple of dvds
