NTSC/PAL help

scrumpydrinker (Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 3rd May 2001, 13:54

Hello all

I`ve decided to buy a DVD player and a Dolby Digital/DTS amp/speakers thing.
I want a multi-region player but am a bit concerned/confused as what happens when you play a region 1 disc.

My TV is a Toshiba `Quadrill` model from a few years ago. In the manual it says that it has a `External Audio/Video input/output - PAL/NTSC (VTR playback)`. Whats all that about then?
Its Scart 1 is `Full 21 pin (RGB, Normal Video, Audio L-R)`

Any help would be appreciated.

Paul

ps. I can`t afford a new TV as well!

I`m not a techno fiend but I would guess your tv plays ntsc as ntsc, which is good! The reason I say this is because I have a 1990ish 28" Tosh and it plays ntsc not pseudo PAL. You`ve probably got a set up menu accessed via your remote, find SYSTEM and set to AUTO and then you`re tv will AUTOmatically, (there`s a surprise!) select the appropriate mode for your r1 or r2 discs.
I hope this helps:O)
