Got one of these today, very impressed with quality of build and actually the recordings and chapter settings are good.

I am sure this recorder uses the Cirrus Logic Sonata platform but so far all i can find on the unit.

Still hunting for a hack for multiregion

It uses the Cirrus Logic 98201chipset (see here - as already stated the recorder is probably only hackable via a firmware upgrade : the US version is the same. Sadly, Sampo (the manufacturer) are loathe to release firmware upgrades that enable multi-region playback on their DVD recorders :(

I have just bought one of these and can record DvDs does this mean that the player or the recorder has disabled macrovision. The only problem I have is recording the 5.1 soundtrack, how can this be done, is there a scart that can carry the full signal. It is ok up to Pro Logic but once the other tracks come in speech is difficult to hear. I bought this DVD recorder as it was cheaper than the Liteon, have I made the right choice?!

Regards

Tim

It is not possible to record a full 5.1 audio signal on a set top DVD recorder - the only way is via software on your PC (eg DVD Shrink).

Bought this recorder from Aldi. Firsty we lost the menu set up by pressing something to do with the RGB. Then exchanged it for another. This was not compatable with 5.1 surround sound so had a refund. Going to try the AKURA dvd recorder from Makro
