Page 1 of TV Reception Too Good...
Hardware Forum
I`ve run into a little problem after offering to help the mother in law, basically, she has recently bought a new house, very close (<50m) to a tv mast. Being a new house they dont come with a tv aerial but redrow recomended a compay that would do it, they quoted over £100 to supply and install an aerial in the attic. The cables are already in the attic so it was just a case of climbing up and fixing the aerial in place, but they said that the main cost was the special aerial that was required because they are so close to the mast.
Being me, I bought a normal aerial, fixed it in place tried it in every different possible position, but no luck. The picture is awful and gohsts really bad. Anyone got any sugestions on how to fix this, an aerial that might work or should I just let her pay the proffesionals?
RE: TV Reception Too Good...
Tom,
You may need a plug-in attenuator between the aerial and the reciever (VCR/TV) to reduce the signal strength.
May find some of the documents at the following website usefull : http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/factsheets/index.shtml

Mother in law joke alert
SPOILER:
Was it in her flight path? ;)
If Mac users are "more intelligent than the average computer user," why do they need an operating system designed for complete idiots?
Have you bought the correct aerial for the area as there are grouping factors to consider and are local aerials horizontal or vertical ?
What is the post code for the area as there is a transmitter finder info site .
