Hi all,
I am thinking of buying a Philips DVDR 610 as a recorder (obviously) and possibly replacing my Pioneer DV656A player as well (freeing it for another room). The DV656A is a great player but as I have a Yamaha Receiver (RXV530RDS) I don`t use the component outputs - just the main optical out to the amp. My neighbours DVDR 610 has already demonstrated that it can play svcds that the Pioneer can`t and I don`t have any SACD or DVD-Audio media yet!
Is the Philips on a par with other similarly priced recorders in features and quality? Also how does it fare as a player?
Opinions welcome!

There are issues with the philips clock( time jumps 30 min) and the fan seems to behave oddly. I would recomend a panny E55 but it does not take SVCD or DVD -RW takes DVD-R and DVD-RAM and plays mp3 and VCD, it is also so boringly reliable it makes you yawn. :)
