Panasonic E55 DVD Recorder - Looking for media recommendations and Prices ?

mikeyb (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 16th September 2004, 21:40

Hi,
just got my hands on the Panasonic E55 DVD recorder and was wondering what was the best DVD-RAM to use, obviously taking into account reliability and price.

Cartridge type preferred.

Any info greatly received.

:D

I always get me media from SVP, sometimes a wee bit dearer than others, but always reliable.
(Although....on my last lot when I emailed about the Ritek problems...got a "standard" email that never seemed to be able to get by the "fill in this form" part....)

On the subject of RAM cartridges, this is definitely the case for scenario 1 below, I believe for scenario 2, but anyone able to confirm?

1) get ONE cartridged DVD RAM disc, which states it`s the removable type (Panasonic 9.4`s are like this for definite), and after use, remove it from the cart and store in a standard disc case.

2) get another blank DVD-RAM disc and put it into the now empty cartridge!

OK, not 100% what you wanted, but a damned sight cheaper!!
(and didn`t I see SVP with some cheap RAM dscs last week?...think there were some for about £3 each)

I would always recommend Panasonic`s own RAM discs, cartridge of course.
Around £7 I think.
Most towns have a Panasonic shop/dealer.
Never a probem with them.
Cheap media is a bad bad idea.

on a search on kelko with "Panasonic dvd-ram" it chucks up quite a few places and pretty good prices (5 for £20) didn`t go any further and check availablity though, just checking the media prices in case i buy an e55.

In theory you should only ever really need one RAM disc as they can be wiped and recorded up to around 100000 times,`they` reckon.
However,I bought a spare as it`s always handy to have another one in case you need to record programme B before you`ve watched programme A.
Handy for loaning out to fellow E50/55 owning friends as well.
4 for £20 sounds good but I`d be wary if they`re not actually Panasonic`s own brand.
They might just be Panasonic compatible,if you catch my drift.
