The Wharfedale M5 Hack?
Posted on Friday, 6 April 2001 at 15:48 GMT

Well, we`re doing well on these M5 exclusives this week aren`t we? I`ve received details of the remote hack for the new Wharfie player, but seeing as I don`t have a machine to test it on, I`d like to ask if people could verify it by posting a comment to this story.

To hack your DVD-M5, do this:

Press the `Setup` button on remote

Select the `Preferences` option on the menu

Press the `Still/Step` Button on the Remote

Press the `Prev` button on the remote

Press the `Next` button on remote
This should take you into a secret menu allowing you to change the region to one of your choice (including region 0 for region free). There`s also the option to disable Macrovision should you wish. The ability to manually select a specific region is a welcome addition as it should allow the unit to play those nasty RCE titles the DVD-750 has had trouble with.

So there you have it. Let us know how you early M5 adopters get on with the above.

Hi there Steve
I have just purchased the M5. Tried your hack with no luck.
Unless I am doing some thing wrong because no secret menu,
showed it`s self. Is there any chance you can shed some light on on this.
Cheers from Statman

I`m just the messenger i`m afraid ... the information is from www.dvdtimes.co.uk and you should look there for any further info ... If it doesnt work then it`s good news for me and bad news for you ...
