Is my telly on its last legs??????

bartapuss (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 12th July 2004, 22:30

I have a Sanyo 25DN2 tv, when switching on after a short while the picture either turns to a widescreen size but the picture is distorted acompanied by a humming noise and then goes off with the sound still on or just goes off with the sound still ok. Turning it off at the standby button and then back on it comes back to normal but sometimes this does not work and the standby light flashes, only after trying it a few minutes later does screen come back to normal.

Could be anything, sounds like field frame probs (cant recall my C&G 224 & dumped all my old copies of Television), dry joints, thermal fault. Could be cheap to fix or time intensive to trace the fault.

Cost of sets these days, makes repair a option few really want & if you do want the repair, the relatively low amounts of (non-warranty\chargeable) work they get pushes up the price even more.

Try a independent TV engineer for a repair quote :) & avoid Mastercare with their blanket charges of about £40 a hour. :(
