Philips DVD728 No S-Video Dilemma

timbleuk (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 19th June 2004, 15:11

Hi,

I just bought a Philips DVD728 and to my horror when I got it out of the box I realised there was no S-Video socket.

I need S-Video to hook it up to my surround Amp. My question is, If I get a scart to S-Video lead will it give me a picture? If it did I would then use my amp for the sound.

Thanx in advance!!

Unfortunately, the DVD728 doesn`t output S-Video at all (not even via SCART), so a SCART to S-Video lead won`t do you any good.

You`re best off just hooking it up to your TV directly, using a RGB SCART connection. You can still use your amp for the sound.

Cheers dude,

I`m just weighing up my options.

The wife finds it hard enough to cope as it is, with the amp and the consoles, sky etc etc. She had just got used to using the amp as means to get the pic and sound for the dvd.

I may just take it back and swap it. What do ya reckon?

I need a multi-region one for less than £100.

I`d swap it in that case. There are loads of great sub-£100 players with S-Video outputs, like the Toshiba SD-330 and Pioneer DV-360 (both around £60-£70 for multiregion versions). I recently got a DV-360 from Richer Sounds, and I`m extremely happy with it.
