Were Techtronics telling me porky pies?

I received my Lg 3350 from Techtroncs last Wednesday. I only had a handful of R2 and one R4 DVDs. I popped in the Ronin R4 - should be in everyones collection for the car chases - and it played OK. I assumed that the region hack had been done by Techtronics.

this morning I received Se7en R1 - the 2 disc version - put the disc in the player and what do I get, "Check Region Code". That`s funny I thought I was unaware that it was RCE`d. I manually put the player onto Region One and the disc played OK. I put the region on to `0`, tried the disc again and it worked.

The R2 and R4 play when the region code is on `0`.

Anyway, the point of the posting, Techtronics sold the player to me as Multi-region capable and not multiregion enabled. Is there a difference?

Maybe they just prefer the user to do the hack so that they`re not actually selling multi-region enabled DVD`s. It`s a bit of a moot point though.

Do you know the difference(s) between the R2 and R4 Ronin? I`ve got the R2 version and I just wondered what I was missing:o(

If you put the R1 disc in straight after the R4 disc (as Ronin is an MGM release it is likely to be coded for both R2 and R4) the player can sometimes remember the R2/4 setting and this can cause the problem you mention.

Techtronics normally sell a player as manual, auto or manual and auto region.

What was yours listed as ?

If we`re thinking of the same thing then it was sold as Automatic & Manual

The 3350 is shipped capable of multi-region playback but any remote hacks that may have to be applied (as in the case of the 3350) aren`t done for you. The nice instructions that came with the unit tell you how to do it yourself. As you will no doubt have discovered it isn`t hard to apply but occassionally you may have to alter the region settings so it`s best to get some practice in.
When I received my 3350 it was set to R2 and I had to apply the hack to get my R1 disks going.
